Why Ignoring Your Inner Nudges Feels Like Self-Rejection
It always starts in the quietest, simplest ways. A soft whisper, a gentle tug at the edge of your day- a spark of desire rising up from the heart. It rarely arrives as a grand, life-altering revelation. More often, it looks like that house project that you walk past day after day (I have a few of those), the uncreated creativity you keep putting off because there is never enough time, missed moments of connection with your child, or the lingering conversation waiting to be had.

So, we set the thread down. We tell ourselves later. We let those sparks cool, watching the moment drift away, sometimes taking years to circle back- and sometimes, if we are honest, never coming back at all.
I’ve been reflecting deeply on what happens when we abandon those quiet nudges. You cannot grieve an opportunity you had no awareness of, but once you feel that spark- once you hold that thread firmly in your hand- choosing not to follow it changes something inside. There is, of course, the potential for regret to take root, but it goes even deeper than that. An ignored thread takes up precious space. It sometimes sits heavily in our minds, in our hearts, and in our day-to-day energy. Or it becomes a quiet, persistent weight- something that is just there, lingering in the background, almost impossible to shake off. By continuously putting off what our heart is asking for, we aren't just delaying a project; we are actively weighing ourselves down.
I was connecting with a client recently, exploring how vital it is to honor these threads and give them the space they are asking for. She paused and said something that hit home:
When I don’t follow those sparks, it feels like I am rejecting myself.
Her words hit the exact truth of it. Ignoring those quiet nudges isn’t just about an unfinished task; it is a subtle form of self-abandonment. It tells your heart that its quiet longings don't matter enough. But the opposite is just as true. Tending to those moments of desire, following them as best as you can right where you are, is an act of radical self-care and self-love.
It often doesn't require massive effort. You don't need to finish the whole project today or clear out your entire schedule to make room. What if you simply picked up one neglected thread? What if you sent the quick message, framed that photo, wrote one sentence, or cleared off a single shelf? Taking even one tiny action in that direction makes a world of difference- it is the gentle, sacred act of choosing yourself.

If you find yourself perpetually putting yourself last, setting aside the threads of desire in your own life, however big or small, I invite you to reach out. Your quiet longings are deeply worthy of being tended to.
Each month, I hold space for us to explore this kind of topic together in our Monthly Women’s Circle, offered both in-person and online. Our conversation will center on Everyday Awe, a gathering dedicated to noticing micro-joy and finding magic in the mundane. We will meet on September 20th and September 22nd, and I would love to welcome you into the circle.
Additionally, I am offering THREE complimentary 90-minute Clarity Calls to the first three women in September who request them. These 90-minute coaching sessions are a gifted, dedicated space to help you name the threads you’ve put off, clear the weight you’ve been carrying, and take aligned action toward what your heart is asking for.
If your intuition is tugging at you right now, reach out to claim your spot or request your session. Let’s pick up the thread together!
xx,
