Unseen Truths

I looked out the window this morning and saw them scattered across the garden- a sudden, vibrant cluster of mushrooms where there had been nothing for months. We haven’t had rain in so long, and yet, there they were.

I grabbed my phone and walked around the yard, snapping pictures of four or five different varieties, knowing even as I took the photos that they wouldn’t last. By tomorrow, or maybe the next day, they’ll be gone, returning right back into the earth.

The Unseen Truths Pop Up Out of the Mulch, Leaves, and Grass

It hit me how deeply they mirror the things we carry inside us. For months, the surface seemed completely dry, like nothing was happening. But beneath the soil, this silent, living network was always there- waiting, alive, and completely untouched by the drought. It didn’t need to prove itself or perform; it just existed in the dark, held by the earth.

The rain didn’t create the mushrooms. It just provided the moment for what was already there to finally reveal itself.

It makes me think about all the times we forget our own inner truth- that quiet place of love, clarity, and knowing. We spend so many years layers deep in surface stories, learning who we think we're supposed to be, unlearning the noise, searching for answers as if they're somewhere out there. But the truth is never missing. It’s just underground, resting in the cells of who we are.

And when the right conditions arrive,- a moment of stillness, a sudden shift, an emotional upheaval, or just a quiet morning walk- that truth effortlessly rises up.

There’s such a gentle relief in realizing that life is continuously passing through. The drought passes, the rain comes, the mushrooms bloom, and then they vanish. If everything is this fleeting, maybe the only real work is to stay soft. To notice. To listen. To enjoy the quiet beauty of what is blooming right now without gripping onto it too tightly, trusting that even when the landscape looks empty again, the underlying story never leaves us.
