Missing the Bee for the Butterfly

We’ve all been there. We fixate on a specific destination, a particular outcome, or a single ideal version of what success should look like. In doing so, we put on metaphorical blinders, narrowing our vision so completely that we miss the magic happening right beside us.

Recently, I was scrolling through footage from a trip to Lewisville Lake- where I'll soon be co-hosting a Sacred Water Ceremony with Manu the Mystic. While filming, I had locked entirely onto a gorgeous monarch butterfly resting on a unique flower pod. I stood there, waiting and waiting for her to open her wings with just the right light so I could capture her full, majestic beauty.

It wasn't until later, looking closely at the stills captured from that video, that I noticed something incredible: sitting on the very next pod over was an equally stunning, giant bumblebee.

I had been so laser-focused on the butterfly that I completely missed the bee.

This moment of realization felt like a mirror reflecting a dynamic I often see in my coaching practice. I’m currently working with a client who measures success by such a strict, rigid definition that they are completely blinded to the richness of their current path.

Because their goal looks a specific way, they can't see the wisdom, the unexpected insights, the deep learning, and the quiet expansion happening all around them right now. They are waiting for their "monarch moment" while missing the vitality and personal growth they're experiencing while living their current journey.

How often do we do this in our own lives?

  • Waiting for the dream job while ignoring the networking connections teaching us resilience.

  • Hoping for a specific relationship milestone while overlooking the daily micro-moments of genuine partnership and growth.

  • Chasing a grand vision of healing while missing the gentle breakthroughs happening in the quiet days.

The universe rarely delivers its gifts in the ways we imagine in our minds. Often, the lessons, the beauty, and the support arrive disguised as detours, delays, or entirely different creatures altogether.

May we open our hearts and our minds to receive fully, even when the gifts do not look like what we are hoping to receive.

The next time you find yourself gripping tightly to an end result, pause. Widen your view. Look at the pod right next to the one you're staring at. You might just find something entirely unexpected.

What is one hidden gift on your path right now that you might have been overlooking while chasing your end goal? Can you see it? Can you open your heart to receive it?
