The Alchemy of Revolution

Updated: 2 days ago

As I sit in the quiet space of preparation for the upcoming Claim Your Kali Power workshop, alongside my dear friend and yogi, Marina from SeeChange, I find myself circling a single, heavy, electric word:

Revolution.

In the yogic tradition, Kali is often the face of this word. She is the fierce midwife of change, the one who cuts through illusion to reveal what is real. But revolution isn’t a monolith; it doesn’t just happen on the streets or in the history books. It shows up in the quietest corners of our hearts and the loudest cries of our culture.

The Many Faces of Change

Revolution is, at its core, a necessary part of human evolution. It is the friction required to move from what was to what must be. As I reflect on this, I see it manifesting in distinct movements:

  • The Personal Revolution: This is the internal "breaking away." It’s the courageous act of confronting self-sabotage, dismantling limiting beliefs, and shedding the heavy skin of societal expectations. It is the moment you decide to step into a deeper, more honest, and authentic truth.

  • The Cultural & Societal Revolution: This is the collective "look in the mirror." It’s where we examine the systems in place- asking if they serve the community or cause harm- and challenge those embedded structures to make room for innovation, collaboration, and creation.

My Kali Fire: From the Mind to the Body

I’ve realized over time that for me, the "Kali fire" has a very specific way of making itself known.

For a long while, I might swirl in my mind. I can intellectually consider the ways in which I’m fighting for or longing for change. I’ll think through the possibilities, trying to reason, rationalize, or "logic" my way into a new state of being. But intellectualizing rarely moves the needle.

The spark truly catches when I feel it in my body.

It starts as a stirring in my belly, a tightening or an opening in my chest, or a quickening in my heart. When I feel that physical need for more breath, more action, and more spaciousness, that’s when the revolution truly begins. It’s no longer a theory; it’s an instinct. That somatic hit is what transforms a "good idea" into the inspired determination needed to actually create change. It ignites courage and firece determination.

The revolution doesn't start in the head; it begins when the body says: No more or Finally, yes.

The Source of the Fire: Rage vs. Resolve

We often assume revolution must be born from a place of destruction- from anger, rage, deception, or war. And while that fire is potent, there is another source.

Revolution can also arise from grounded insight and deliberate action. It doesn't have to be reactive; it can be proactive. It can be a steady, burning determination rather than a flash-in-the-pan explosion.

I find myself wondering:

Is there enough fire to create change if it doesn't involve rage?

Can the fire of passion, instinct, and clarity be enough to sustain the journey?

Do you feel the stirrings of a revolution in your life right now, and if so, does it feel more like a quiet clarity or a roaring fire?

As we consider the ways humans have evolved and risen, I invite you to check in with your own internal landscape.

  1. Are you sitting with a personal revolution? Are there patterns, beliefs, ways of being/doing that you are finally ready to break free from?

  2. Are you feeling ready to support a societal revolution? Is there a system you feel called to challenge or a new way of collaborating you want to seed?

  3. From what place do you hope to engage? Are you fueled by a righteous anger, or are you moving from a place of clear, quiet instinct? Can you lean into trust, curiosity, and courage as you consider the light peeking through the darkness?
